            Sub:Recognition of 4 year BFSc. (Nautical Science) Degree conducted by                
                   CIFNET and affiliated to CUSAT for engaging Deck Cadets on board
                   Foreign going Ships – Request for conduct of Campus interview – regarding.

Sir,

            CIFNET functioning under Ministry of Agriculture, New Delhi, is conducting a 4-year Degree course of Bachelor of Fisheries Science (Nautical Science) affiliated to CUSAT and recognized by University Grants Commission.  This 4 year Degree course is a specialized course concentrating of Nautical Science, Chart Work, Seamanship and Navigation are given due thrust in the syllabus of 4-year Degree course.  The details of subjects covered in the course is enclosed as Annexure-I.  It may be seen from the Curriculum that the course is having a subject on practical training on board the Vessel.  On board training is an integrated module of the course.  The students are regularly deputed on board the Vessel for getting practical exposure on the sea and the Navigational and other practices on board the Vessel.  The students are also evaluated by the University with the help of external Examiners for the proficiency they acquired during each Semester for the on board practicals.  The students are thus exposed well to the on board practical during six Semesters of the course.  During which they are deputed on board the Vessel for more than 90 days.  Thus the students who are successfully completing this course are having a sound theoretical and practical knowledge of the Vessel, Seamanship & Navigation etc. which is the prime requirement of the marine field.

           

            Recently vide Notice M.S.No.21 of 2008 dated 16.10.2008 the Directorate General of Shipping has recognized this Degree course for engaging Deck Cadets on board Foreign going Ships.  The eligibility as per the notice of D.G. Shipping is reproduced below:

            50% marks in Aggregate in 4 years Degree course in Bachelor of Fisheries Science (Nautical Science) conducted by Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) affiliated to University and recognized by University Grants Commission.

                                    AND

50 marks in English either at 10th or 12th or at Graduation level.

 

            The D.G. Shipping has also exempted the students passing the BFSc. (Nautical Science) from CIFNET from appearing Pre-Sea training.  Thus the students of BFSc. (Nautical Science) of CIFNET are eligible for direct entry without Pre-sea training and they will be having sound related knowledge in the field of work.

 

            It is, therefore, requested that these students may be considered for recruitment in your concern.  We will be able to arrange a Campus interview at this Institute, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi – 16, if required from your end.
